Oral History Seminar in Budapest, based on Bridging the Divide

The Canadian Embassy in Budapest, Hungary's Culture and Education Ministry, the OSA Archives and www.ontheglobe.com hosted a seminar at the OSA Archives for high school teachers on approaches of educating students about Hungary's 1956 revolution. On March 22, educators presented Hungarian-Canadian Andrew Princz's publication Bridging the Divide: Hungarian and Canadian Stories of the 1956 Revolution as a tool for using oral-history in a classroom setting. Oral history is a relatively new approach in Hungary, and speakers discussed the topic, and methodologies. The event was organized as a result of a study last year which indicated that young Hungarians know very little about the events of October 1956. The seminar attracted over 70 educators for the event.
